New Year’s Goals and Pages

January 8th, 2011 by bcarter

I haven’t really blogged regularly here in a while, I’ve had a post or two, but that’s about it. I’m going to put in an effort to get here weekly in order to stay up on this blog. There probably won’t be anything life changing, but it will at least help me keep track of what I’m doing in order to make sure I’m changing my habits that will help me achieve my goals.

Speaking of goals, I wrote a lens about the habits I’ll be changing in order to achieve my goals. I’ve kept things simple this year to make sure that I am able to achieve them. Many times, we read about those that are making thousands of dollars a month and think we can get there in three months as well. While I’m sure this could happen if someone was lucky and worked at it, but it’s just not realistic.

If you’d like to read about what I’m going to be working towards in the new year, you can find out at my lens: Why I Won’t Be Making a New Year’s Resolution for 2011.

eReaders

January 6th, 2011 by bcarter

I just posted my second lens about eReaders this week and it was on the refurbished Nook. Right now everyone is focused on the Kindle which is leaving the Nook niche wide open. I’m not complaining, it’s just a simple reminder that we should all keep an open mind when looking for niches and subjects to write a lens about. If the competition on subject A is just too difficult, then check subject B. I have decided that this is a good way for me to avoid the frustrating burnout that comes along with building a lens, site, or hub in a very competitive niche and feeling like you are not getting anywhere with the time you spent building these web properties.

Nook Cases and Covers

I’m not saying you should avoid competition, but if you are just starting out, I would build 5 lenses with a lot less competition to every 1 you build with a ton of competition. This should help keep you grounded and keep from getting frustrated.

Good luck to everyone this week,

B

Cell Phone Cases

November 27th, 2010 by bcarter

I cannot lie, the cases and skins niches have been good to me over the last 3 years and so how could I deny building some new lenses along those lines for some more current cell phone models.

I know there’s not a lot to these lenses, but I have always found that searching eBay for these items can be quite the daunting task and I have also found the eBay is one of the cheapest places to find skins and covers for cell phones. These lenses aren’t meant to be life changing or throw you into a great epiphany over what is going to happen tomorrow, but they are built to take the work out of searching eBay for what the shopper is looking for. Everything is laid out into a category to allow for the web shopper ease in their shopping experience. My two latest lenses along these lines are Nokia E63 Cases and Nokia N95 Cases.

The opportunity for these types of lenses is endless for me, so I will building a lot more of these in the weeks to come along with a smattering of lenses on others things that I feel like writing about. I don’t know what has gotten into me recently, but I have to say that the Squidoo bug has bitten me again.

My Newest Niche Blog

November 11th, 2010 by bcarter

Recently I have started to move away from Squidoo for some of my niches, not that I dislike Squidoo, but these niches are ongoing things that I could build into my own authority site at some point in time.

I don’t always like to do this because experimenting can be time consuming and cost a little bit of money. There is hosting (paid for, but you have to worry about site hijacks), purchasing a domain and setting up the blog for the first time. Securing the site is the most important part, I have found my sites the victims of several attacks recently and it’s almost enough to make you throw your hands up in the air and give up.

My latest niche site has been Dance Dance Revolutions. It’s a site all about DDR games and games that get you moving. I have still used Squidoo to build a couple of lenses and link back to my new site, but the bulk of my content has been on the original niche site.

Have you busted out of Squidoo and started your own properties yet? I’m interested to hear your thoughts.

A couple more review lenses

November 8th, 2010 by bcarter

I’ve been trying out some difference formats on my review lenses recently. One of these can be seen on my Dance on Broadway lens and another can be found on my Shark steam cleaner review lens.

I did by my steam cleaner for a reason this past weekend and I had to spend my whole time cleaning the house instead of building more lenses. The good news is, I’ll have a clear mind this coming weekend to work on lenses and my other blogs all week and weekend.

NFL, TV’s and Anniversaries

October 26th, 2010 by bcarter

I had moved away from making lenses for a little while because I decided to run with making full out websites instead. Well, my ADD has drawn me back to making lenses on top of all of my blogs. Building traffic to a new blog takes time because it takes time for Google to find the site; Squidoo gives you an advantage by being as large as it is.

I have found the Squidoo is great for small product niches that are too small to make an entire blog out of, but large enough to make a page or two out of. One example of this is my 1st wedding anniversary gifts for him lens. This is a great niche that I will probably build an entire site out of eventually, but I haven’t found the right domain yet.

This past week, I also made an attempt at a product lens again with this TV lens at VIZIO XVT553SV. I’m not sure how I feel about it yet, but we’ll see what kind of traffic and money I make from it.

Last but not least, I was finally approved as an affiliate for a website that sells Pink NFL Jerseys directly. It was a lot of work to change the links, so I’m going to see how much money this site brings before changing the links on all of my other NFL product lenses.

That’s all I have for now, but I’ll make sure I post some more. I stopped posting here because I built another Squidoo blog which is now defunct, so I figured I’d come back and see if my blog was still alive.

Good morning everyone. The Pack ended up with barely a win (yeah) and my disk clean has definitely helped the speed of my computer. We’ll see what happens when I get going for the day though.

  • Checked my Big Crumbs earnings; I was pleased to find out I had earned some “crumbboosters” which is cashback from a purchase someone made when clicking through an offer through my link without signing up or signing in to their member account.
  • I think I’m going to go through Down On Our Luck and find all of the old links for a domain that I no longer own.
  • Finally finished going through Down On Our Luck for old mybigcrumbs links. Visit my site on Tuesday to learn more about why I had to do this.
  • Wrote a new post at DOOL about updating my favorites page. I need to think of something fun to write about on Saturdays so I can stay a little on track.
  • Updated my Nintendo WII skins lens. It has been some time since I’ve shown this poor lens some love and it should have a lot of potential with a little love. I’m thinking of splitting this one up like I did the Nintendo DS Skins lens. My traffic on that lens jumped after I split it. I’ll save more about that for All Squidoo All the Time.

I forgot to publish the last couple of days, so I had to remember to hit the publish button this AM. Other than that, things are pretty normal here.

  • I ended up following some tweet links and digging a couple of articles. My username is Divaduh on Digg; feel free to add me as a friend.
  • I wrote a new blog post at Shopping on Squidoo (I need a new title) about the new lensmaster profile layout. Trying to make an arrow that is turned just took up way too much of my morning. But is was a good learning experience in Macromedia Fireworks and vector graphics in general.
  • I forgot that I had never set up a privacy policy on Shopping on Squidoo. I just did a copy and past of the one I used on Down On Our Luck and replaced the domain reference.
  • Started with the daunting task of relisting video games in my eBay store. Due to  a change I’m making; I need to change every listing. I started out all ambitious tonight, but the PC is working way too slow and it’s way too freaking hot and muggy. It’s definitely time for a long needed defrag and disk clean.
  • I finished the day with watching the Packers game with some friends.

August 19th, 20th, and 21st, 2008

August 22nd, 2008 by bcarter

Nothing special going on today. I fell asleep real early last night; maybe I was trying to avoid calling the bee guy back. I actually got some housework done and did the dishes; real strange for me to do during the week.

  • I bought a new forwarding domain for Big Crumbs. It turns out the one I was using caused a lot of problems that I was not aware of. I’ll be giving the problem causing domains to the owners of BC once they get back to me. Over the next couple of days, I’ll have to find all of the hidden places that I’ve left the old domain. Even though they are scattered, I think they are all confined to a few domains.
  • Found the first place using my old domain; my Make Money Shopping lens had quite a few of them. Now I can scratch that off my list.
  • I found some BC links on Brenda K Carter as well. Got those all fixed up.
  • Sticking to my rule of blogging everyday, I posted Tuesday’s update of my Big Crumbs Earnings from July 2008.
  • Boo, I failed with updating my blog everyday already yesterday. Wednesdays are supposed to be my Q&A day, but I didn’t have any questions anyways. I did write an update today at Down On Our Luck.
  • I managed to get the Entrecard toolbar working as well, now that they worked many of the bugs out. Thanks guys.

Good, I’m up a little early to get some things done this AM. We live on a fairly busy street and the freaking police sirens woke me.

  • Yesterday, I updated the theme for Down On Our Luck; besides the header, I really like it. The header is not horrible, but it needs something more. I will hopefully have someone working on my headers soon :)
  • Posted another Dog Pic at One Million Pet Pics.
